Our graduate program:

Our 18-month Graduate Program, Foundations, has been uniquely designed to bridge the gap between formal education and the workforce, establishing a clear path for your future and accelerated success. As a BMD team member, you will develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, innovation and team building.

BMD graduates are offered a career path with adequate support systems in place to encourage growth and individual contributions. We offer structured on-the-job training, learning and development plans designed for growth, and unique access to business leaders for mentoring.

What to expect:

Your motivation will energise our tight-knit FIFO team to help deliver a major infrastructure project in Central Queensland and the Northern Territory. This FIFO-based role involves working away between Monday and Friday for Central Queensland, while in the Northern Territory, it operates on a 15/6 roster.

Our industry leading Graduate Program is designed to set you up for a long and successful career - by building a solid foundation. Here’s what to expect:

  • kick off with a three-day all expenses paid conference on the Gold Coast with your peers
  • engage in structured learning through three tailored modules on topics designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills
  • experience exciting hands-on and in person learning every six months to build relationships and network with your peers from across the country
  • receive mentoring from BMD’s Board of Directors, executive management team and emerging leaders who genuinely want to build your leadership qualities and help you progress through the ranks
  • see inspiring presentations from industry experts to build your skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.

What you’ll do:

As a Graduate Site Engineer, you’ll get the chance to explore multiple functions of the projects you work on to get an in-depth understanding of the core elements required for delivery. You will work as part of the team and play a key role in ensuring all work is delivered in accordance with quality, time, production, safety and environmental objectives of the project in line with our expectations as a business and the BMD way.

As a Graduate Site Engineer, you will get the opportunity to:

  • learn about drawings, specifications, and workplace health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) requirements for all site-related activities
  • work as part of a team to ensure core project functions are being delivered, including purchasing materials, supporting financial functions, submitting progress claims, assisting with quality monitoring and contributing to creating solutions where needed
  • maintain a daily diary outlining details of site meetings, discussions, works performed, and inspections
  • actively participate in training initiatives and skill development programs.

Who we’re looking for:

BMD welcomes graduates with diverse backgrounds and experience. We’re looking for an eager, determined and resourceful graduate who is ready to take the first leap in their career.

To be successful, you will have strong decision-making and communication skills, creative thinking and the drive to experience real hands-on work in the field. We are also looking for a graduate who can showcase resilience, enthusiasm and a passion for teamwork to achieve positive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

To qualify for this position, you must have completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (or graduating in 2024 or mid-2025). Candidates will require their own transport to project sites.

Steps in our recruitment process:

  • May to June - Submit your 10-minute application including CV and academic transcript
  • June to July - Shortlisted candidates are contacted to attend an interview with our senior leaders
  • July to August - Formal offers to join BMD’s graduate program
