The Graduate Program further introduced differing areas of the Department and public service functions where I was able to learn and develop in a supportive environment.

What's your role in the department?

I currently work within the Financial Integrity Branch of the Early Childhood and Youth Group. Our team works to ensure that the Child Care Subsidy goes where it should, enabling parents to return to the workforce and supporting children's early development. I've done a mix of policy, procurement, project management, and contract management in the team so far.

What's been the highlight of your experience in the Graduate Program?

My program highlights include meeting such a diverse cohort of Graduates from a range of backgrounds and perspectives, as well as the opportunity to complete a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration at the University of Canberra, delivered by public service experts and leaders. The Graduate Program further introduced differing areas of the Department and public service functions where I was able to learn and develop in a supportive environment.

What tips do you have for future grads considering the Education program?

My primary tip for future grads would be to take advantage of as many opportunities as you can while you still have your Graduate sheen. Take part in the varying Departmental committees and networks, attend professional events, and strike up conversations with people you normally wouldn’t, or invite your executive for a coffee to learn about their career. Whatever it is, take advantage of the supportive environment you’ll be in to stretch your personal and professional capabilities.
