Lachlan Waghorne

Myself and my Project Manager will meet with the client to have a chat about the progress of the project and discuss any issues, risks and scope related items which the minutes are captured by myself and issued to the client post meeting to demonstrate an accurate record of the meeting and indicate items for action to help drive processes efficiently.

5.30 AM

I kickstart the day at 5:30am by going straight into the gym (luckily have a decent setup at home) where I’ll smash out around 40 minutes on the bike before jumping into the shower and getting into my work attire for the day ahead. I’m always super hungry in the morning so I ensure to get a big feed of eggs and avo in before I hop into the car and head to the train station and make my way to the Melbourne Office.

8.15 AM

work desk

Most days I get into the office just after 8am and chuck my snacks/lunch into the fridge and fill up my water for the day ahead. Following this I head to my desk and fire up my laptop to sort through emails and read my diary of handwritten notes of actions/urgent tasks that I have allocated. Whilst doing this I love to have a yarn with my colleagues about weekend activities, footy (go dons) and general gags.

10.00 AM

After issuing emails to clients and preparing for the day, I jump into a team catch-up meeting for one of my projects where we discuss the key action items through an action tracker, this is used to populate important dates for the week surrounding specific activities that need to take place both from a Johnstaff and client perspective to ensure the project is progressing and maintaining programme. After the meeting has concluded I went back to my desk and got stuck into items that require immediate action, for today’s instance I spent a couple hours populating a project management plan and consultancy agreements.

12.00 PM

Once 12pm arrives I’m straight into a Project Team Meeting which generally goes for an hour. Here myself and my Project Manager will meet with the client to have a chat about the progress of the project and discuss any issues, risks and scope related items which the minutes are captured by myself and issued to the client post meeting to demonstrate an accurate record of the meeting and indicate items for action to help drive processes efficiently.

We’ve made it to lunch time, easily the best part of the day as I love my food. Today I didn’t bring any lunch, so I wandered down to the local café and secured a cracking Banh Mi and a coffee. Once I’ve got the goods, I like to go for a 10-minute walk to get some sun and tick the legs over. Upon finishing eating, I head back to the office and make my way to the family room and have a chat with colleagues and read the back page of the newspaper to get all the sporting gossip.

3.00 PM

After lunch its time to get back into it, I send a few emails to clients and then throw my headphones in whilst I assess progress claims from the contractor and issue them to the client. Doing a couple can take a bit of time as it is something you can’t rush and is super important to get it right as these dollar figures are being confirmed for payment by us and then paid by the client.

5.00 PM

Time to pack up, I consistently write down important notes for tomorrow and the week ahead in my diary to ensure first thing tomorrow morning I can open it and know for sure I haven’t forgotten anything. I then head down the elevator and rush to the train, nothing worse than watching the train you’re meant to be on depart the station without you.

7.00 PM

I have just finished up a strength workout so it’s time to cook up a good feed and nestle into some much-needed Netflix. I like to get at least 8 hours sleep so I try not to stay up too late, unless there’s Thursday night footy which I’m all ears until that wraps up! End of the day and ready to do it all again.
