What does a Mechanical Engineer in Buildings do?

  • Assists project team members in the design and documentation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems
  • Liaises with other discipline design team members
  • Carries out building heat load calculations, the basis for selecting mechanical services equipment
  • Sizes HVAC distribution systems and selects equipment
  • Provides input into briefs and reports, including sketches in Bluebeam
  • Schedules equipment and inputs into the project specification
  • Creates markups and schematics for our modelers to document
  • Attends meetings with senior team members
  • Attends site with senior team members to witness mechanical services installations
