CUHK LAW is renowned for the quality and practical nature of its teaching.

CUHK LAW’s PCLL Programme

The Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) is the qualification that is required for law graduates to go on and begin their professional legal careers in Hong Kong, as either pupil barristers or trainee solicitors.

The CUHK LAW PCLL Programme started in 2008. Since then 1700 students have graduated with the PCLL qualification.

We treat all applicants (incl. CUHK graduates) equally. We actively encourage applications from graduates from other universities in Hong Kong and overseas.

The CUHK LAW PCLL focuses on training graduates to acquire the skills that will be reached in legal practice. You will be taught by an experienced team of mainly full-time former practitioners.

The Programme is full-time and is one year in duration. It is taught in two stages.

In the first stage you will study core practice areas. In the second stage you will choose from a wide range of electives that are designed to reflect the range of work carried out by barristers and solicitors in practice.

The compulsory core courses are studied in Term 1. They are:

LAWS5001 Professional Practice
LAWS5002 Commercial Practice

The first twelve electives are taught over Term 2. Trial Advocacy is an intensive course taught over two weeks in Term 3.

Students take part in large and small group sessions. All classes involve student participation. You will get regular feedback on your work.

Assessments are on a continuing basis throughout each Term. They include exercises on writing, drafting documents, problem solving, client interviewing and oral advocacy.
