Background

The Creche and Kindergarten Association Limited (C&K) is a not-for-profit early childhood provider with nearly 350 early childhood education and care services located across Queensland. C&K acknowledges that each child and family have unique early education and care requirements and so we provide a range of different programs including childcare, kindergarten, outside school hours' care and integrated services.

As a not-for-profit organisation C&K provides services to the community and does not operate solely to make a profit, reinvests surplus profits back into the organisation and has a commitment to making a positive social impact.

Listening & Learning Together: C&K's Curriculum Approach

Curriculum in C&K early childhood centres is shaped by a strong set of shared values, commitments and visions that honour children. A distinguishing feature of curriculum in C&K centres is the way that educators skilfully partner with children and families to create caring and vibrant learning communities. The purpose of the Listening and Learning Together: C&K Curriculum Approach is set out the values commitments and visions for children’s learning that underpin curriculum in C&K centres and to support educators to bring these to life in ways that realise the expectations described in the Early Years Learning Framework Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG)

The C&K Curriculum Approach is a professional resource for all educators that work with and alongside children from birth through to school transition. The Approach is supported by an interactive online C&K Education Hub

Provisionally Registered Teacher Support Program

C&K offers a support program for provisionally registered teachers (PRTs) working towards full registration.

This program is available for all PRTs working with children in the kindergarten age group and provides additional mentoring and support to help the PRT to meet the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) teaching standards.

C&K provides experienced, qualified registered teachers as mentors who provide wise practice support via face-to-face visits, phone and email in the following areas:

  • curriculum, programme and planning
  • documentation and assessment of children’s learning
  • guiding practice against the standards and the collection of evidence
  • counsel, insight and guidance for decisions.

Once the PRT obtains the required experience the mentor will sign-off the principal report which is then submitted to the QCT, enabling the PRT to transition to full registration.

As part of the C&K PRT support program teachers are also provided with:

  • free resources including the C&K collaborative teaching and learning journal and practice guides
  • opportunities to engage in professional conversations with other PRTs
  • professional development opportunities (face-to-face and online)
  • provision of a live and continual PRT report to track progress.
