Pros & Cons

  • Flexible work environment, career growth support.
  • Working on projects that actually matter, with real customers from the very start. The feeling that knowing that the code I was writing was being used in a real world environment was amazing. The training and development, as well as opportunity for amazing experiences and just general support have been outstanding.
  • It's great just how dynamic the work is. There is always something different to work on week-to-week and day-to-day, which keeps me feeling interested and like I am constantly learning.
  • The meaningful impact we have on keeping Australia safe. The flexible work hours and people mindset.
  • The flexibility to work the hours that fit around your life and balance that comes with it.
  • Waiting for clearances to come through.
  • I don't have any significant criticisms of the work. It's taking a while to get my security clearance, which is a bummer, but this is not the fault of Leidos.
  • Ethics around military work.
  • The wait for clearance and chances to learn are sometimes behind barriers due to the nature of the work been so strict and costly.
  • Inability to work remotely in my field.

The potential career pathways open to me are quite clear and I feel confident in the knowledge that if I continue to perform well, I will move on to bigger and better positions in time.

Corporate Social Responsibility
In terms of ethical responsibility, I've observed fair treatment across all clients and employees regardless of age, race, culture, or sexual orientation. Also honest disclosure of operating concerns to stakeholders in a timely and respectful manner.

Culture
Teamwork and support are outstanding, there's no other way to phrase that. Supervisors and managers, even at the senior level, very deeply care about the wellbeing of all staff. Quite regularly people will grab drinks after work, teams will often put on lunches for the whole office on Fridays. Overall it's just amazing.

My day-to-day responsibilities and the expectations placed upon me strike quite a nice balance between being adequately challenging and not exhausting/overly stressful.

Management
I am indeed satisfied with my managers; they are consistently approachable and readily available for discussions whenever needed. Their open-door policy fosters a comfortable environment where I can freely communicate and seek guidance. Additionally, my mentor provides valuable support through regular one-on-one sessions, during which we engage in meaningful conversations about professional development within the company. This accessibility and mentorship contribute to a positive internal communication culture, ensuring that performance feedback, praise, and recognition are effectively conveyed, ultimately enhancing both individual growth and the overall team dynamic.

Office Work Environment
The offices and facilities are very comfortable, clean, and nice to work in. Dress code is pretty much whatever you want as long as it's work appropriate. Most people do business casual Monday - Thursday and then casual Fridays, but some people will happily wear a tshirt and jeans all week. It depends on your role and if you have a lot of interaction with customers.

Recruitment

Recruitment
The hiring process was seamless, with regular communication from the HR team and my managers, even before my first day. The interview itself was fantastic, intelligent questions that really had me reflecting on my skills and experience, but what value I could bring to a team. The interviewers were welcoming and listened to what I had to say.

The opportunities to have pay reviews and performance reviews are abundant and allow for many opportunities to have pay increases.

Training

Training
As a graduate, we're given a lot of training chances. These can include going to another city for training. The company follows a 70/20/10 (on the job/ shadowing someone, mentoring/coaching, and formal training) structure on training employees and this does not stop after the grad year.

A high degree of flexibility in work hours, allows you to start early or late, accumulate hours for shorter days, and ensure a balance between work and personal commitments.

As the company uses coffee pods, they are paying additional money for a company to recycle these, so they don't just go to land fill. Furthermore, there are plenty of recycling bins and provided cutlery so that you aren't just using single use plastics.
